Boaters discovered 25 dead pilot whales on an island off Florida's southwest coast Thursday, raising the death toll to 33.

Many of these beached whales have suffered physical trauma, including bleeding around the brain, ears and other tissues and large bubbles in their organs. They are also disoriented, dehydrated, in complete distress, emaciated & have white spots on their internal organs showing severe results from Sonar Trauma. 25 short-finned pilot whales were found dead on Thursday, January 23, on Kice Island, just across Caxambas Bay fromMarco Island.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) quickly responded to the scene. The 16 females and 9 males were further described as looking emaciated and sickly by representatives of theNational Oceanic and Atmospheric Adminsitration (NOAA).
